SAN PEDRO, CA—Breaking traditional protocol by engaging early to help elect a Democrat in a currently held Republican seat, today the Los Angeles County Democratic Party (LACDP) endorsed U.S. Representative Janice Hahn for Los Angeles County Supervisor District 4.

Given the fact that L.A. County’s 4th District seat has been held by a Republican for over 25 years, the LACDP’s extraordinarily early endorsement represents a significant early victory for Rep. Janice Hahn, particularly in a district with an increasing number of Democrats. The newly drawn 4th Supervisorial district is economically, ethnically and racially diverse, with more than 1 million registered voters, 480,000 of whom are now Democrats (45%).

LACDP Chair and California Democratic Party Vice-Chair Eric C. Bauman said:

"Rep. Janice Hahn has always been a fierce fighter for Democratic values, as an activist, a member of the Los Angeles City Council, and as a a member of the U.S. Congress.  The 4th Supervisorial District vacancy represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to turn this district blue, and Rep. Hahn is the best candidate to do it.  The Los Angeles County Democratic Party looks forward to working with Rep. Hahn to further move Los Angeles County's progressive agenda forward."

Upon receiving the endorsement, Rep. Janice Hahn released the following statement:

“It is such a tremendous honor to have this early support from Los Angeles County Democrats. I have enormous respect for the delegates, grassroots activists, Club members and leaders who make up the heart and soul of L.A.’s Democratic Party. Their early recognition and confidence in my campaign means a real lot to me on a personal level. I am thrilled to have the Party’s stamp of approval and to parter with them so that we can work together to continue expanding our list of supporters and getting our message out across the 4th District.”

LACDP by-laws provide for a Candidate Recruitment / Early Endorsement Track for certain local races, enabling LACDP to play a more influential role in winning seats and majorities for Democrats in historically Republican controlled districts.  This track specifically allows LACDP in special circumstances to recruit, endorse, and support candidates for local office on an accelerated timeline.  The regular LACDP endorsement process begins after the close of the candidate filing deadline for a given election.
